Vertikal, a tribute to the aerial world, is the latest creation of Mourad Merzouki a choreographer whose journey began with hip hop and whose work is defined by his endless invention of hybrid artistic disciplines. With ten dancers of his company Käfig, Merzouki explores the theme of flight. With ropes playing a central role in the performance, the choreographer gets his intrepid hip hoppers to swoop high in the air and then skim close to the ground, exploding the myth of gravity and ground for dance. The virtuosity and poetry of the performance are set against the delicate, original musical score by Armand Amar.
